Explicit "Draft" state within news workflow
Angela Gaida
A customer brought this to my attention, I'm putting it here on their behalf:
You can start editing a blog post (aka news article) and send the link to the edit view to someone else, thus enabling them to work with you on the draft. By simply not clicking the "publish" button the news item stays in a draft status. However, that's not very intuitive, and it requires sending the edit link to your colleagues every time.
Alternatively you can use the Linchpin Enterprise News Workflow: set a publish date in the future, and all colleagues defined in the text team can collaborate with you on the draft right up until the publish date.
If, however, you want to publish the article as soon as it's finished, usage of a future publish date isn't super intuitive either.
It would be much more intuitive if you had a button "save as a draft" that did the same thing as a future publish date, that is: moving it into the workflow space, making it available for colleagues in your text team. Then, when it's finished, you could manually publish it by clicking a button, and thereby moving it into the original space where it's intended to go.
