Advanced people directory
complete

complete
With the recently release Suite 5.0 we now have a list view in the people directory in addition to the already existing card view.
In this list view, it's configurable which profile data are visible. So for now we'll mark this issue as completed.
If you have further ideas on what features should be added to the people directory, please create new tickets for those. :)

Angela Gaida: How do you configure to make the fields viewable on the cards? I can add them as filters, but the cards in the People Directory are only showing name and email, so this makes a very unscannable people directory. A bit disappointing if this was closed without making those fields visible on the cards.
Angela Gaida
Misha Thornburgh: The info on the cards is not configurable at this point.
This is because we think (and heard a lot from customers) that the new list view is much more useful than the card view. So much so that a lot of them want to have the list view as their default view.
(which is implicitly possible: the browser remembers the last view you used, so once you switch to list view, that will be your de facto default).
In the list view, firstly you have a lot more room for more information than would be possible on the card view. And also it's fully configurable which columns - i.e. profile fields - are visible.
That's why we closed this issue, as for a lot of users this will be a fully viable solution.
Of course, if you do prefer the card view over the list view, and want to be able to configure the info shown on the cards, please by all means open a new canny ticket here. If there's a demand for this, we really would like to know. But for that to be clear, we need a fresh canny ticket, so votes for an improved card view aren't mixed up with votes for what we've built so far.

Angela Gaida: how do you switch the people directory to list view? I feel like I'm missing something, as I don't see that option.
Angela Gaida
Misha Thornburgh: With the recent release 3.0 of Linchpin User Profiles (or Linchpin Suite 5.0 / Linchpin Essentials 2.0), if you switch to the people directory, there's these two buttons on the right hand side. They toggle between tile and list view. Your browser will remember the last setting you used, so if you switch to list view, next time you visit the people directory you will again be on list view.
You can see that for example on our demonstration instance https://demonstration.linchpin-intranet.com/browsepeople.action

Ciaira Castorena being able to configure the contents of the cards in the people directory is part of what we're working on already.

Merged in a post:
Display options for the People Directory
Ciaira Castorena
We need options for configuring how the user cards appear in the People Directory, specifically the ability to choose which fields are displayed. We're currently seeing two issues with ours:
- There's a lack of information about each user, such as their location, position, etc.
- The PD is displaying the email address based on the confluence.mail attribute, which is a broken format ("john smith at domain dot com" instead of "johnsmith@domain.com") instead of our LDAP populated email address.

We are still working on this one; making something really useful out of the standard Confluence people directory is quite the project ;)
At the moment we are working on the search field, so it searches all custom profile fields, and on additional filter options for - hopefully all - field types. We're not sure if we can manage really all field types until the next release, but we surely will have covered the most important ones like the text fields for example.
Showing more information in the user tiles is not part of this next release, but will be a thing that we work on in a next step.

Angela Gaida: I have to say I find it a bit interesting that you focused on the search feature when you already have that via the My Contacts menu. Will very much look forward to when you are able to reveal more information on a full user list, that's what we really need!

We are waiting for this feature improvement too

We started work on this, but it will grow in small increments, step by step. Extensive search and filter functionality won't be part of the first iteration, since we have to lay the groundwork first and only have limited resources available.

This feature is really necessary, it confuses users sooo much to have a people directory which does not contain ANY profile details nor filters from LUP...

This feature is still planned but will take some more time. I will keep you updated :)
