The unsplash.com feature is great, but the terms of use in larger companies are a big hindrance, so in practice the feature will probably often remain disabled (as it is with us). Therefore, a local linchpin image library, where the communication department could centrally provide corporate design compliant photos and icons would be a great feature for the future :)

After receiving feedback about the way to implement this, here in the comments and via direct communication, the overwhelming majority votes for copying the images to the post / event rather than hotlinking it. It also is the easier approach for implementation, so that's a win win situation :)

Bastian Abel: Yes, there is :) The singular apps Linchpin Enterprise News and Linchpin Events, that contain the features, are already released on the marketplace. The Linchpin Suite Release for it is in the works and will be released around the end of August.

Hey all,
at the moment we are planning to implement this feature with a very lightweight approach, that Olaf Stehr also suggested in the comments, and we are working on getting the development tickets ready for implementation.
So the solution, in short, will be: You can add images to one or several dedicated Confluence pages, and these images then can be used by authors and editors as images for news teasers and events.
However, we have to decide one thing, and we are not sure which way to go, so I'm asking you for your opinion.
Variant #1:
The images will be hotlinked to the news / event. This means:
- The pages containing all the images have to be accessible (or at least viewable) by all users. You cannot hide these image collections to be only available for authors / editors.
- Changing an image within the image collection will affect all news / events that already use this image. So a news item or event could get a different image later on, if an image is switched out.
Variant #2:
The images will be copied to the news / event. This means:
- You can hide the pages containing the complete image collection and make them only available to specific users or groups.
- Changing an image within the collection will NOT affect older news and events, those will keep the original image at all times.
Since this is a pretty fundamental decision that we need to make when starting to implement this feature, we really would appreciate your input here.
At the moment I'm leaning towards variant #2, since it's much less effort for development. But I'm very open to your opinion. I'd be glad to hear from you all.

Angela Gaida: Variant#2 is preferred - Why is this feature only possible for news and events? I think, a local Picture-Database is a nice feature for Linchpin...

We are mentioning news and events specifically because there we have to implement the ability to use images that are attached to other Confluence pages, which currently is not possible.
If you want to use those images simply in a page's content, this is possible already via the regular "insert image into content" functionality.
Also, for news and events it's a regularly occuring situation that you might want to have an image but don't really have a specific one on hand, so you might want to use a more generic one from a database.
But if you have a specific use case within Linchpin in mind, where usage of this "image library" would be helpful, please tell us! :)

Angela Gaida: i vote for Variant #2. This way, the page with the images can be updated centrally by a few people and there won't be any chaos due to images that are no longer available or have been changed.

To be pragmatic: It would be already a good start if the blog post editor could chose an image attached to another page as teaser image.

Right now you have to upload a teaser image when creating a news item or use the default image.
This feature would enable an administrator to pre-upload a collection of images that can be used for news teasers by authors, whenever they don't have anything specific for that news item.

It would be interesting to know if you want to store the images in Linchpin or do you need an integration into a file system. Do you already use an image library or do you collect images e.g. in Google Drive?

it would be great if the images could be stored in Linchpin. Our marketing plans to use frontify.com as Digital Asset Management Plattform, but i think an interface to this platform would be rather "nice to have" than a strong requirement.

We understand this wish and find it very interesting.
However, this feature will probably not be on the roadmap in the near future, as we currently have to focus on other topics.
We will continue to monitor the request and see how many votes it gets.
