Waiting list for events that are already fully booked

As an event organizer I want to provide a waiting list for my events. If my event is already fully booked I want people interested in the event to be able to apply anyways and get a notification as soon as there's a free spot again.
Please provide any ideas and / or feedback on how the waiting list process (especially for people on the waiting list moving up) could look like in your company as a comment - thanks!

A quick fully booked event should urge the organizor to plan an extra event.
If a waiting list is considered; when a spot comes available at least the first person on the list should be notified.
Maybe copy the waiting list to a duplicate event is an option with the waiting list changed into attendees (forced participation, sign out by choice) or the waiting list notified an extra event has been created (sign in by choice, my preference).
In the first place: A quick fully booked event should urge the organizor to plan an extra event.

Also the possibility for the waitlist to be automatically added to the event if a spot becomes available.
