Select Frame in video thumbnail

I'm mulling over a few alternatives here, and I'd like to hear your opinions:
How important is it to have the video in the tile itself? Do you usually have only the video as the most important part of the news? Or is there a full news article as well? Would it hurt your use cases, if we moved the video to inside the news item (so you have to click through to the news item itself to watch it), and only have an image in the tile? Or is it super important that a click on the news tile already opens up the video player?

We would like to use an attached picture (or an attached shorter preview/teaser mp4-video) for the preview in cover stories and news-feeds)

We'd be happy with the "choose a picture" option.

Hey Jan Hartje, videos and news teasers ... that's something that causes us a lot of headache once in a while ;)
In fact, a while ago we already looked into this issue in an attempt to have better images/thumbnails for the video teasers, but we opened a nest of vipers there, with loads of side effects, differences between the various video streaming services and so on. In the end the amount of work for this didn't seem to be worth it, so we didn't pursue it further. But let's see how the voting here goes; maybe we can pick it up at again.

Angela Gaida: Indeed, it is complicated to create a select frame mechanism for each streaming service. Perhaps you can solve this problem by using an image instead of video as a thumbnail in combination with a play button.

Jan Hartje: yes, using an additional image would be a workaround for that, I've thought about something like that as well.
