Currently there is no proper way to show a video in a microblog post. You can attach and link a video, but it cannot be shown with thumbnail / player and will just download when clicking the link.

We released a new version of the MB yesterday which includes the possibility to add Youtube and Vimeo Player. Simply add a link to the Video and it will be resolved as a player in the timeline.

We did a short technical validation and came to the conclusion that the integration of external video sources (server links, for example) is not easy to implement, but the use of external links to Youtube and Vimeo is feasible. 
In a first iteration we will follow up on these features in the foreseeable future.

We are aware of this topic and created an internal feature task to implement a support for

Add Video-Links from Youtube / Vimeo (do you have any further sources where you would like to link videos from?)
Enhanced Video Upload: 1st Iteration would be to show a play sign and open videos in the preview (for defined video-formats) - 2nd could be to have a media player inside the MB
